CONQUER ASCEND 2023: Maragondon Trail Marathon – 42K/ 21K/ 10K

This year’s edition encountered a lot of challenges but still commenced at its original home, the historic Municipality of Maragondon, Cavite.

The 2nd Leg of Conquer Trail Adventure Series finally happened last July 9, 2023. Initially scheduled March at Brgy. Puray, Montalban, Rizal. Unfortunately, affected by the insurgency so we decided to bring it back to Maragondon. We are very thankful to the LGU of Maragondon for always welcoming us.

The 7th edition led our runners to the same route last year where every part of the course is runnable. Featured were the great sceneries of Mt. Marami, Mt. Mataas na Gulod, Mt. Bulbok, Mt. Pico de Loro, and the other beautiful peaks of Maragondon mountain range passing by the historic Mt. Buntis and Mt. Nagpatong. Also runners visited Bonifacio execution site and other historical trails along side the Bonifacio trial house and some of the ancestral houses of notable Filipinos who were rooted in Maragondon.

It was a muddy race caused by the heavy rainfalls days before the event.

The event was graced not only by the seasoned runners and newbies, we were inspired to have some of our para-athletes. And for the first time, we were joined by pets who run along with their owners.

CONQUER TRAIL ADVENTURE SERIES GRANDSLAM 2022

And the series continues…

Ladder-type trail running series conducted on different promising places. Started from the 25 km at Conquer Ridge Runner held in Mariveles, Bataan last February 20, 2022. Followed by a 42 km trail marathon at Conquer Ascend held in Maragondon, Cavite – on April 3, 2022. And finally, a 50 Km trail ultramarathon at Nasugbu, Batangas last November 27, 2022, to end another arduous series.

The objective is very simple – to help runners achieve their ultimate goals in trail running through this kind of series. A series that will unleash the courage and determination of each runner. And I am glad to see new faces in every series. New athletes to grow in our field, trail running.

Presenting to you the seven (7) runners who successfully completed the challenging series.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!

RACE RESULT: CONQUER ASSAULT 50 2022: Batangas Cinco Picos – The Last Leg

Finally, the plan of connecting the mountains adjacent to Mt. Batulao happened thru the last part of Conquer Trail Adventure Series 2022 – Conquer Assault 50: Batangas Cinco Picos – The Last Leg, last November 27, 2022. We connected five (5) prominent mountains, Mt. Talamitam, Mt. Lantik, Mt. Toong, Mt. Batulao, and Mt. Tatlong Tilos, traversing three (3) municipalities of Batangas – Nasugbu, Tuy, and Balayan. It was indeed an adventure and challenge bridging dots, sleepless recons, unlimited bushwacking, numerous lost along the way. But beyond all the struggles, the team discovered and unlocked awesome spots the route has to offer.

We started at Bayabasan Elementary School, located at Sitio Bayabasan, Brgy. Aga, Nasugbu, Batangas at 12 midnight. Runners run Mt. Talamitam and Mt. Lantik via Sitio Ludlud until they reached Brgy. Kayrilaw where our AS1 was located. They went back to Bayabasan Elementary School, AS2, via the same route except that they were not climbed Mts Talamitam and Lantik again. The first part served as they warmed-up before going to more daring part.

They entered Brgy Toong, Tuy, Batangas, AS3, via Sitio Kaybibisaya passing Kaytabak Falls and Ambon-ambon. Afterwards, climbed Mt. Toong via a non-traditional trails we decided to include to minimized the risk running to so many cliffs and loosed rocks above the traditional Toong trail. This part, the wind has the tendency to blast hard and fogged the area anytime of the day. Indeed, this part was the most challenging part of the route. 25KM runners also enjoyed this part as they started at 6AM .

After they reached the summit of Mt. Toong, 50KM runners battled the steep downhill going Brgy. San Jose, Tuy, Batangas, AS4. The intermediate cutoff is at 10AM. They passed by the untouched stream system of San Jose where the Barangay and adjacent sitios sourced their water. After having their first major meals on the race, they proceed to Mt. Batulao summit climbing the same steep trails until they reached the junction above. 25KM runners’ next destination was direct Mt. Batulao.

After reaching Mt. Batulao summit, all runners proceed to Kaylaway II Elem. School, AS5, located at Sitio Balagbag, Brgy. Kaylaway, Nasugbu, Batangas. Intermediate cutoff at 2PM. They passed the boundaries of Balayan, Batangas. They had their 2nd major meal of the race, then proceed to the finish line at Aga Elementary School via Mt. Bato or Mt. Tatlong Tilos, runners find it the lightest part of the route being mostly flat and runnable elevations.

10KM runners enjoyed the out and back route passing Santos Farm, Kaytabak Falls and Ambon-ambon until they reach Brgy. Toong in Tuy, Batangas.

It was a fun, adventure, challenged filled race runners should race back and looking forward to, come 2023.

My sincerest gratitude to the following partners whose sacrifices were priceless in taking care of everything to cater to the needs of the runners.

  1. Team CONQUER – Mhelay, There, Pat, Ecka, Ge, Jerriel, Mai, Moi, and Victor
  2. Racetech – Jerriel and Mai

It was very nice to be back on the trails of Mt. Batulao after two (2) years of missing. Finally we hit another optimum event and glad to unite everybody to enjoy the sports.

The 6th edition of Conquer Jagged Peak is an out-and-back run with a loop over the Old and New Trail of Mt. Batulao. Still, we commenced with three (3) categories with twenty-one (21) kilometers as the main event, ten (10) kilometers to cater to the more beginners and speed fan runners, and of course the “ELITE 5”, where we can meet the finest of a team competitor, running alongside from start to finish.

Locals said that it was raining every afternoon the entire race week, but during the race weekend, it was fine with sunny weather after all. The grass was tall and green and the landscape is always amazing.

See you again next year for another grueling but exciting historic trail marathon in Maragondon.

RACE RESULT: CONQUER RIDGE RUNNER 2020: Tarak Ridge Rosary Trail

It is our way to start trail running yearly and kick-off the season.

The 1st Leg of Conquer Trail Adventure Series happened last January 5, 2020. Still at the challenging mountain of Mt. Mariveles featuring Tarak Ridge.

The 6th edition brought back runners to the traditional routes of Paniquian – Tarak – Papaya trail. Minor changes applied to eliminate some barangay roads going to Nanay Cording’s place before entering Ayala trails.

Drizzled hours before the start made the surrounding even colder. But all in all, its another fine weather, the usual strong winds at the ridge, the cold waters from Papaya and Paniquian Rivers, beautiful Sllaj Falls, astounding views from the peak and ridge, challenging route. Plus the hospitality of the people of Mariveles, Bataan, caring marshals, delicious foods, all in one trail race.

We had another astounding event. Probably one of the best editions. All because of the following partners who sacrificed more than enough in taking care of our runners and catered for all their needs.

  1. Team CONQUER – Mhelay, There, Khara, Pat, Moi, Bong, Ecka, Jaime, and Jerry
  2. PARDSS Foundation International Inc., headed by sir Michael Porquillano, for taking the needed traffic security along the Barangay area up to the first Aid Station and bringing our runners safe back to the finish line. And for the immediate transport of our runners who needed prompt medical assistance.
  3. NU Mountaineers – Jas, Michael, Floryselle, Jesseth, Adrian, JM 116, Monina, JM, Patrick, Jhing, Rica, Kim Po for taking care of the field and Aid Stations.
  4. TMTR – Charm, Tashia, Ae, Lyzeth, Saki, and Lezzel
  5. Our sweepers – Jai, Khat, and Cali
  6. Our local marshals – Ate Beth (our official cook), Lester.
  7. Our Photographers – CN Creatives (Calvin Ryan Nadua) and Foxcy Smile Photography (Glairold Recella)
  8. Host – Ms. Vicente Blue Zapanta Jr.
  9. Graphic Artist – Mark Luis Manlangit
  10. To the people of Mariveles, headed by the Municipal Mayor Hon. Jocelyn Castaneda,  especially from Brgy. Alasasin headed by the Brgy. Chairman Hon. Roberto M. Arsenal, Hon. Dante Malimban, Sir Claro, and Sir Rommel.

RACE RESULT: CONQUER ASSAULT 2019 : Maragondon Trio Trail Ultrap

The 5th edition of Conquer Assault was set at the brutal routes of Maragondon, Cavite. The tough terrains made even tougher due to the muds resulted from weeklong heavy rain. Aside from the mud, swift current from the rivers made the Race Director made the last minute re-routes.

What excites everybody was the inclusion of Pico De Loro after the 3-year closure to the public. Our runners are very fortunate to witness how this closure resulted in the rehabilitation of the protected area for the first time. Wildlife became active. Floras flourished. We have seen the revived forest Mt. Palay-palay was known for.

I would like to thank our Lord God for another successful event, no major injuries and another good weather race we didn’t expect. The LGU’s of Maragondon, Cavite headed by the Hon. Mayor Rey Rillo, with the great efforts and assistance from Mommy Edith Eseque, thank you very much for your tremendous support.  Sir Jerry Punongbayan, thank you for your usual assistance. Bishop and Councilor Hon. Bernie Ilagan of Lolo Claro’s, our favorite recovery place. Maragondon Tourism headed by Ma’am Estrellita De Vera, PENR headed by Ms. Ronita Unlayao and Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) thru the leadership of sir Bayani Suarez Mendoza, thank you very much for letting us see the beauty of Pico De Loro once again. Kudos to your moves to rehabilitate our protected areas.  To the strong marshals for the great efforts, sleepless night serving our runners just to make sure everyone will finish – NU Mountaineers, Team Choloflight Multisports, Team Maranat Trail Runners, Wilderness Search and Rescue, and of course Team Conquer. Without these guys, its a nightmare. Sir Jessie Tan of Conquer Outdoor Equipment, thank you for your usual support. All our runner participants who always there continue supporting our events THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!

Conquer your fear with the right gear.

See you again next year for another Conquer Trail Adventure Series.

RACE RESULT: CONQUER ASCEND 2019 : Maragondon Peaks Marathon

Every year, we make sure that there are new spices to love for on our events. The recently concluded 5th edition of Conquer Ascend 2019: Maragondon Peaks Marathon will surely leave a mark to our runners to return back to Maragondon for more. More adventures, more challenges, more mountains to explore, more trails to run. Foods are the best coming from the best international cooks. The kakanins, goto, pansit, that filled our runner’s stomach before, during, and after the race.

The inclusion of Mt. Marami for this edition satisfied our objective to bring the runners into the next level and The usual scorching heat of Quarry area. As part of the ladder type series, Conquer runners are now ready for their Ultramarathon race come the 3rd Leg.

I would like to thank our Lord God for another successful event, no major injuries, and high percentage finishing rate. Another good weather to race. The LGU’s of Maragondon, Cavite headed by the Hon. Mayor Rey Rillo, with the great efforts and assistance from Mommy Edith Eseque, thank you very much for your tremendous support. Sir Jimmy Diones for assisting me roam around the municipal and for the unique bamboo creations that are proudly Maragondon made. Sir Jerry Punongbayan, thank you!
